The aviation industry is facing major changes, which call for new materials that are both highly resilient and sustainable in production. By joining the international research network TPRC, the FACC is taking an important step in developing its role as one of the world\u2019s leading aviation groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Together with leading international technology companies, the FACC is conducting research into the further development of lightweight construction materials, so-called thermoplastic fibre reinforced plastic composites. These are fully recyclable and primarily attractive for the aerospace sector due to their low weight. Major international aviation companies, including Boeing, Spirit AeroSystems, Collins Aerospace, GKN Aerospace \u2013 and recently also FACC \u2013 are therefore pooling their resources in the ThermoPlastic composites Research Centre (TPRC): Research is being conducted into the opportunities for further developing and utilising this promising material at a research centre in Enschede (Netherlands).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Numerous areas of application<\/strong> \u201cResilience, lower weight, processability, recyclability and cost effectiveness: the demands placed on materials for the construction of aircraft and drones are extremely high,\u201d emphasizes Ren\u00e9 Adam, Director of Research and Technology at FACC. \u201cThe materials that are currently being researched together with international partners offer enormous potential in this regard. Manufacturing by means of thermoplastic fibre composites has now become one of the core elements of materials and process research in the aerospace sector,\u201d adds Adam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sebastiaan Wijskamp, Technical Director of the TPRC: \u201cWe are delighted that FACC has joined our consortium.
