What would the world be without music? AKM ensures that musicians – i.e. people who compose music, write lyrics or publish it – are paid when their music is used in public. This is not only fair, but also safeguards the creativity and independence of the entire music industry. AKM itself is a non-profit organisation. As a non-profit organisation, it only acts as an intermediary: anyone who uses music needs a performance licence. This licence income is paid out to the AKM members, i.e. the authors, as royalties.
Products and services
AKM stands up for rights holders and collects their royalties – not only in Austria, but also almost all over the world through its cooperation with foreign collecting societies. Over 28,000 composers, lyricists and music publishers have already entrusted AKM with the administration of their music rights.
Where protected music is performed in public, the organiser needs a performance licence. Public performances are more than just concerts and live performances. It also includes the playing of CDs, records, DVDs, streaming, etc. AKM grants these music users the necessary licence for public performance.
AKM also assumes social and cultural responsibility and in this way additionally promotes Austrian music creation.
